“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Birthday SHout Outs

Miss Mo (that's what our Molly gets called) and Schmem! Happy Birthday to both of you. Can I just tell you how much I love you both? All I can say is RDC! How do we ever repay that place? First I meet Les then she brings Molly, then they send Em and Kristi...each year it kept getting better and better!
I can't believe how much we have all been through and changed in the 13 years I have known you guys. RDC, missions, Utah State, marriage, kids..... Can you believe 13 years? For Kristi, Les and Molly it has to have been at least 20 years? Is that right? We go through periods of time where I feel like we are in great contact and then other times when things get busy and we loose contact for a while but I know that we can all just pick up from where we left off. Throw on a tune or two, turn on the disco ball, throw on a pair of Khak's and we're good to go!
Molly I would have to say that Martha's Vineyard had to have been one of my favorite trips with you and Les. Oh boy...DO you remember Maggie and her boyfriend Jamie arguing as soon as we got off the dock? Do you remember crashing at a random persons house that we met at some club? How about that fact that it was illumination night? I still have that picture of all of us on the beach. I love that picture!
I also loved our trip down to Zions with my friend Patty...that was so fun. I will never forget Patty the first morning when she said S*&@ and then how she looked at Craig Barlow and said "I'm so sorry, I have been trying to be so good around you guys!"
Angels Landing....NEVER again! You could offer me a million dollars and I wouldn't do it. It would use all that money up for therapy after wards! BUT I am glad to say that I have done it.
I also will never forget you and Steph i the back seat on our way to North Conway....you know what I mean...
Molly I remember after I decided to move out here and you guys were going on missions that I was so bummed and couldn't understand WHY in the world you were going! Now looking back I admire you,Leslie, and Emily so much. What a great decision you three made. (as Kristi, Steph and I were dealing with Magic Shell on our walls) I couldn't believe how much you changed when you got back but it was all for the better and you were still the Crazy fun girls that we all loved!

Emily my dear sweet Em! Girl...we had some good times at RDC together. Do you remember the night we stayed in that cabin and you, Me, Kristi and Steph went skinny dipping? Then remember Craig and Homebrew came in and Craig played that U2 song on the guitar! That was such a fun night! Didn't someone take a bubble bath in there
and wasn't someone on the roof?
(wow, I am starting to think this Blog should be private because people that don't know the whole story might think crazy stuff!)
Em, I also remember the night I let you cut my hair. I thought it looked fine but a few days later it was so uneven! Who knew????
I loved going to town in the big blue bus with YOU driving!
Red Sox games! I love love loved going to the Red Sox games! What a blast!

What is so great about my memories of you two Birthday gals is that we are still making memories when we get together. I love that Ellie loves you Em and she knows you are the funny super nice guitar gal. Molly I love that my Miss Mo knows you because she knows ya'll have the same name. I love that Leslie started this whole chain of friends getting together and now look at us....

I hope that you Ladies had a great Birthday! I love you both a ton as you already know. I hope that this summer we can all get together. Em...are you still up for planning our next years girls weekend? If Les is still in Mexico..we are coming down Les!

Happy Happy Belated Day my friends!
I love love love you both and hope to see you soon!

Fun, Fun at the Zoo!!

Can you see little Miss, Avery crowding in to touch the snake?!
Karrie and Aaron and their new place!
Look at Payton, my brave girl, touching the snake!
Ahhhh, Mikkel and Payton (always posing!)
That's what I said, "always posing!"
Intensely viewing the animals!
Robert's little sisters.........
How's the view from up there, Owen?!
I'm glad we paid for the wagon that only the adults sat in or pushed!
Hey, even the "little man" touched the snake!
We picked up Mikkel in Pocatello and headed to Idaho Falls for the day. She is one crazy girl. We all adore her and are glad she was available. She is on a tight schedule filled with socializing, socializing and more socializing! We drove to IF to visit Karrie and Aaron and see their new home. It was so nice. The place is huge, open and roomy, and very warm and cozy. We loved it, and I think the kids favorite part was their indoor tennis court, you know, the unfinished basement where they hit balls against that wall all day! Robert's convinced we need to get the three little ones tennis rackets now! We headed to the zoo and the day was perfect. The weather was just right and the kids loved seeing all the animals. Later we barbecued at the new place and Jen and the kids came over too. They were visiting in IF and taking Sarah the next day to BYU, Idaho for EFY. We don't get to see them very often as they live in Colorado, so that was a nice surprise. Unfortunately by then, my camera had died. So, I didn't get any pics. of their cute family. But, don't you worry...this camera nazi will get several this summer when we all meet in Bear Lake for our family reunion! So, thanks for letting all of us mess up your beautiful new home, Karrie and Aaron, and especially for feeding this rowdy crew!

Lee's beach trip write up.

Lee wrote a cute little summary of their adventure to the beach while I was gone. It's on our family blog but I thought I'd put it here too.

Molly left town over the weekend for a half marathon in Utah and left me at the mercy of our children. Coincidentally, Oregon was experiencing a strange phenomenon that same weekend. The sun was out all over the state! I loaded up the kids and too much gear then headed for Indian Beach, one of our favorite spots along the Oregon Coast. The kids played for hours occupying their time by throwing rocks repeatedly in the tide pools, digging, watching a sea lion that was close to shore, splashing in water that makes you wish you were somewhere else and lounging on the blankets. Like all parents, I was concerned about their intake of health foods to fuel such activities so I fed them a steady diet of peanut butter crackers, doritos, chex mix and fruit snacks washed down with gatorade. Minus getting kids and gear to and from the beach, leaving Cade's favorite shorts drying on some driftwood, forgetting sunscreen near Campbell's elbow resulting in an interesting sunburn, (any credit for all the areas I did get?), Jack's busted lip and resulting "Dad, Jacks bleeding all over the place"scene. I would say the trip was an enormous success. Besides, we were heading to Camp 18 on the way home for some gigantic cinnamon rolls. One bite of the gooey center and all they will remember is that dad took them to the beach and had a perfect day. Come home soon mommy, we miss you!

Friday night at the park.......

I have to cherish the days they still like each other....ha, ha
My little man........
Ahhhh, the slide monster........ I tried this too, I thought I would throw up!
Thanks, Owen for throwing sand in the girl's hair. That was a lot of fun to get out in the tub.....

We grabbed some KFC and headed to Payton's school to picnic and play. Since the weather turned out nice the kids played on the toys, in the sand, and on the bars for nearly 2 hours. I am loving my tiny, pocket size camera! I pulled it out and snapped some photos (sorry...they aren't the best quality!) I thought I would share!

More Utah Weekend Pics.....

Here's Emily.....still in character!
Molly and Emily......always having fun!
Such posers!
We stopped and saw Trish on the way home. Her kids are so cute. Aren't her flowers gorgeous?
Grandma and Grandpa survived a weekend with our wild monkeys!

Here's some more fun photos! I hope everyone is geared up for a nice holiday weekend. The weather is overcast and cool here. We plan to just stay home and get some things done. I know, we're terribly boring. Owen has a cold though and isn't feeling well, so going anywhere wouldn't be a lot of fun. I do plan to take my girl's to a matinee tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone seen College Road Trip with Raven? Let me know. Have a great weekend!

Schmem...Our Nun

The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Emily...............

Emily did a great job the other night in her play! Thanks so much for getting our tickets Em...it was so much fun and you are one talented, funny, cute, lil' Nun! Your voice.......is incredible...forget about guitar lessons...give me some voice tips....just enough to not scare off the person in front of me at church!

I love you Emily...I am so so glad to have you as my friend!!!!!

Ode to Books

Hey girls! Although I don't really have anything new and exciting to write about, I was inspired by Angie's email and thought I should post something.

I was looking at the blog and at the list of books you posted and thought about how much I love books. During my many years of travel (when I was so terrible about keeping in touch with all of you), I spent so much time alone without friends and family nearby. Books were my companion. The sat next to me on planes, rode with me in taxis, made my hotel rooms not so lonely and occasionally caught some rays with me on far off beaches. Books were true, blue, loyal friends and I love them!

We do have a lot of favorites in common. I'm excited to pick up some of them that I haven't read yet.

Some of my favorites that weren't on the list:
East of Eden- John Steinbeck
Angle of Repose- Wallace Stegner
The Alchemist- Paulo Coehlo
The Good Earth- Pearl Buck
The World is Flat- Thomas Friedman
The Chronicles of Narnia- C.S. Lewis
Mere Christianity- C.S. Lewis
The Tipping Point- Malcom Gladwell
Pride & Prejudice- Jane Austen
The Giving Tree- Shel Silverstein
Bonds that Make us Free- Terry Warner

So, have you guys finished The Pillars of the Earth? It's next on my list!

17 days and counting...

Kristi and Ang- How's the training? I feel like I'm running out of time to get to where I want to be. I had a crappy run yesterday that kind of discouraged me. It was supposed to be a 55 minute tempo run where I gradually get faster and faster and then slow down the last part but my legs were so tired and just didn't want to go. I had been feeling pretty good too! Nothing like a little humble pie right? What are you guys running for your long run Saturday? I think it will be a great race and it will be so fun to just hang out for a couple of days. I'm really excited to see your play Emily. Steph will you be around?
So Ang I'm having a problem with my blog. How do I move pictures once they're on my post. They just go to the top of the post and I can't move them down to mix in with my text. I've spent so many stinkin hours trying to do one post. I'm really frustrated with it. I can't seem to highlight the photo to paste it anywhere else.
Take care!

Let's Do it!

Okay Ladies.....Let's do this! I am so excited to read this book. Kristi, I did hear it was really really long but that just makes me want to read it more. Some books you start and never want it to end so this will keep us busy for a while. Em, I bet you would love this! I will call Steph because I talked to her the other day and she said she couldn't get on the blog. She is on the waiting list for her Internet hook-up.
I am going to get on amazon and order it today................. BTW Kristi, I loved that shirt you ordered from Layers. Have you guys checked out that Garnet Hill website? I just ordered the catalog. SO cute...a bit pricey on some things but I loved their suits too.
Molly It was good to talk to you the other day. I am COUNTING down the days to see you all....seriously.

Go back

Hey guys...Go back to that post I was telling you about http://thegabblog.blogspot.com/2008/04/just-for-record.html
Read the comments.....there were over a hundred comments and two people were sharing different opinions.I just thought it was interesting. I loved the post because I felt like this girl was pointing out that we are NOT affiliated with the FLDS but boy I love to always see the other view points of people as well. I did agree with her about extending our hand out but...you go check it out....

What to read???

Hey girls,

Have you read The Confessions of a Slacker Mom by Muffy Mead-Ferro? It is a fun, short and easy read. I knew I was a slacker mom, but she makes you feel like it is A-o.k and that the type A, everything and everyone has to be perfect moms, are just darn right ridiculous! I would recommend it! I was looking at our list of reads. There are so many to choose from. I would love some input on what to read next! Please tell me which book you think is a must read! Fill me in on what you are all reading now! Happy reading!

Steph it was great talking to you the other day, I hope you got to your doctors appointment on time. I made your white chili and Jake was in HOG HEAVEN. It was fabulous! A Spring Pick Me Up

SLOW ROASTED TOMATOES

Hi ladies...I hope you guys are all doing well. I thought I would include some recipes from the past few weeks.
This was made for our neighborhood lunch bunch friday.
It is Slow Roasted Tomatoes, it calls for regular tomatoes but roma is great for putting on a baguette.

3 medium tomaotes (6 roma)
6 cloves garlic
6 sprigs thyme
3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
Kosher Salt and Pepper

Slice up tomatoes in (spoon out seeds). Spread on cokkie sheet or casserole dish. Scatter the minced garlic and thyme. Drizzle with oil and sprinkle 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper. Bake at 300 for 2-3 hours.

If you kind of saute the garlic and add some red pepper then pour it on it gives a really good flavor with the red pepper.

I thought this would not only be good on a baguette but also tossed with pasta and some veggies.
CARRIBEAAN TACOS

This next recipe I got off of this girls blog. We have made it several times and the kids love it too.

Caribbean Tacos

4 T. Honey
3 T. Fresh Lime Juice
1 T. Oil
2 tsp. Chili Powder
1/4 tsp. Garlic powder
1 - 1 1/2 pounds shredded and cooked chicken

I put the frozen chicken breasts in a crock pot drizzled with olive oil and S&P on high for a couple of hours and them shred it . Mix the honey, lime juice, oil, and spices and toss in the chicken.

Shredded green cabbage
fresh cilantro
salsa
diced mango
flour tortilla

YUMM_O!

I get carried away with recipes because I love them so much. I have a few more but I'll post it next week. I miss you guys a ton. I will see you guys in May for sure. I got some SWEET new running shoes and I am hoping they will pull me through for the race. To be honest I am not training as hard as I should. I don't have the time (or maybe it's the dedication) but I am going to do it the best I can and then hopefully do one a few months later.
Em...how's the play going? I can't wait to see you in your element! Steph how is work? The Guitar? I had to take mine to go get the neck adjusted so I will be guitar less for a week:(
Molly and Kristi how's the running going girls? Getting my butt in gear to be consistent is not happening. I will be o.k. though. I am getting a bit nervous about trying to get pregnant with all that running too. Hopefully I will be able to.
Keep on Keepin' on girls. Love you all
.

.

BFFs

Just wanted to share something real quick. I had a conversation with one of my running friends this morning and it got me thinking. We got on the subject of friends from high school and college. She commented that she'd had nice friends and roommates but she felt like they were there just to kind of get her through until she found the right man that she was supposed to marry. I(of course) told her how I felt differently about my friends. That the few good friends that I have from H.S. and college are meant to be my friends for life. True BFF s! You all are truly a blessing. Hopefully we'll all see each other in May!

The grouchy mother blues

So last night I went to bed feeling soooo guilty about how impatient and grumpy I'd been with my kiddos. I even checked the calendar to see if I was approaching that lovely time of the month. Nope, I couldn't even use that as an explanation. I was just grouchy. Jack is sick(again!) and all he wanted all day was me and his Binky(which is supposed to stay in his bed). The kitchen was a mess and I had two baskets full of clean laundry getting more and more wrinkled by the second and the two kids were at each others' throats. Anyways, I felt so bad after checking on them before bed and there they were-perfect angels, and there I was feeling like a total b*%@#. After praying extra hard before bed I had a new desire to just be a good friend to them today. I kept thinking about the saying that goes something like: When we die are we going to wish we'd spent more time at work or on cleaning the house or doing laundry? Not likely. But we certainly might wish we'd spent more time just playing with the kids. So today I have really just been trying to do whatever the kids want to do. Jack just wanted to sit on my lap and suck on that nasty Binky of his a lot of the morning but oh well, he was happy and that made me happy too. Campbell and I played with her little animals when Jack went down and honestly I almost fell asleep as I was being the mommy elephant but she loved it and that's what today was supposed to be about. I can say that Campbell and Jack have not teased, argued or tattled all day. I know everyday won't be this way but it has been nice. And no my laundry still isn't folded but maybe Jack will sleep a little longer so I can get that done too.
So what do you all do when you're grumpy and just need an "attitude adjustment"? What have been some of your good mom, wife, friend, teacher moments?

Music

Hey I made a playlist for the blog. Feel free to go to Playlist.com and add some songs. The account is Loganladies and the password is not Deephaven but the other side if you know what I mean. I put some of my favorite songs on. I had Justin timberlake rock your body and then took it off....Do you remember get down on it? All I can remember is Hirome,Leslie, and do you remember Eric? I can't remember his last name. I just picture him with his hat on backwards getting down shaking his arms like crazy! That boy did have good rhthym. What year was that---94 or 95? Anyway I put on a few of my all time favorite songs. I seriously can't remember what we listened to besides Dave Matthews?
Okay it is super late. I just got back from seeing August Rush..the movie. It was good, I loved the guitar in it!
Molly I am glad you figured out how to get in to post. Steph and Em you guys will have to go back in your email and accept the invite from blogspot and then make up your own password.
Can you guys believe we didn't crank the music one time and groove...that's so not like us. I must be getting old I can't remember the last time I REALLY danced!

A little something

I was just sitting here looking at the computer and thought of a saying that a friend told me this past year. I don't know if you remember my friend Patty....Molly we went to Zion with her, Steph I think you probably met her a few times and I am pretty sure she stayed with us at the big white house...anyway, she came out to visit a few months ago and while I was driving to the airport she told me this saying. It has always stuck with me and yesterday when I was in the PET scan freaking out I calmed myself by repeating this over and over.
"Take Kindness and Benevolence as Basis.
Take Frankness and Friendliness to Heart.
Speak with Reason. Treat with Courtesy.
Act with Emotion.
Accomplish Results."

I think I will have to keep saying this to myself during the race too.It is such a small phrase with such a good messasge.

The Not So Pretty Pet

Hi Ladies
Today was the day I got my Pet Scan. I went and was there for two and a half hours. Needless to say it was not easy as I am claustrophobic and paniced a few times. I had to sit in a dark room by myself for 45 minutes after they injected the stuff and told me not to move and try to zone out and not think......yeah that's pretty much impossible for me to not think. I have to say that as much as I hated and I am glad it is done. I would close my eyes and think of Jake, the kids and my good friends. My friend Jen drove me and picked me up when I was done and I looked like crap..it's amazing what stress will do to you.
Anyway, thank you all for the emails and calls. I appreciate it. I know I keep saying this but I really have a new outlook on things and I am going to deal with the big anxiety in full force.
I have loved being in touch this past week it has seriously made my week. Steph, I about busted a gut at your email...seriously how are you so stinking witty? There is nothing better than a great laugh! Emily, I can't wait to come see you in your play.
Well, not to be a blog hog or anything but I am going to add a playlist on our sidebar with some Logan Lady tunes.
I had to put on the picture of Ellie and her outfit that I was talking to one of you about. She came up with this outfit and I about died it was so cute. That's my hat, Molly's shirt and her shoes and shorts. After a day like today it made me smile!
Take Care

Thanks Angie B.!

Angie,

Thanks for all your time and efforts to put this Logan Ladies blog together. You are so creative. It looks amazing. I loved your quotes, words, pics. linked sites, etc.

This will be a great way for us to do just what you said, Angie, give support, tell our frustrations, get advice, share recipes, quotes, fun stories and more! I can't wait to do that with all of you!

I saw two quotes on home made signs at my friend's house today. I thought, right on, and wanted to share them with you.

"Trials and tribulations are mandatory, sorrow and despair are not!"

"A clean house is time misspent!"

I also was also was listening to a cd today that is one of my favorites. I forgot to name it last weekend. The artist is, Mat Kearney. The album is titled, Nothing Left to Lose. I was going to tell you my favorite song on there, but I honestly can't decide. They are ALL good. So, check it out!

Alright my kids are hanging on me and needing a little attention.

Have a terrific taco Tuesday! Remember those Taco John's adds, Molly in Pocatello...."Taco Tuesday, Taco Tuesday, two tacos for 99 cents!"

Love you girls,

Kristi

The Weekend

Oregon Coast Reunion

This past weekend has been one of the most rejuvenating times of my life. I read my emails from Kristi and Emily and it just made me cry again. (although that's not too hard to do huh?) I came home feeling so full of new energy which is what I needed so bad. Let's use this blog to as a support to each other. Let's share ideas, concerns, recipes, pictures, disappointments, frustrations, quotes, books and anything else we can think of.
I want to start by saying thanks to all of you for an INCREDIBLE weekend. I knew it would be fun but I had no idea just how wonderful it would be. Now I am excited for a yearly weekend getaway. I was telling Emily how great it was to all be together as a group and how great it was to feel like I was able to have 1 on 1 time with each of you too. You each have a spec ail quality that I am hoping will rub off on me. Molly for you it is that fact that you are like Kristi said a "ROCK" ...you are grounded and "wired" :O)so well. I always want to be better after I am with you. Emily, For you it is your ability to walk into the room and just light up every one's life. You have always been able to know how to bring laughter and fun, you are THE funnest person. Kristi, For you , you have always been a friend that truly cares for people and wants the best for them. You have a heart that is so big that I am afraid it might bust! And Steph for you it has always been your ability to be constantly positive and loyal no matter what the situation and like Em your sense of humor is irreplaceable. I could go on and on about all the other qualities that I love about you but I just wanted to tell you the ones that I am working on thanks to you all. It was a great weekend I am so excited for this blog to keep in touch better.
I love you all........
